I know some of you were praying about our visa situation, so this is an update for you.
Unfortunately Craig's working visa took longer than anticipated to process, so we had to enter Hong Kong on a holiday visa. This meant that we were required to physically leave the country within 90 days of being here in order to get our working visas stamped. Macau seemed like the closest border to cross, so we planned a day trip via train and ferry to the nearby island on Saturday.
It seemed like a great idea at the time, to visit an exotic place like Macau, or "Kapow" as Jemilla called it. Maybe if you were a wealthy individual or a holidaying couple keen on gambling it would be an ideal destination. But we arrived around 1:30 in the afternoon and were not impressed with the heat and lack of family restaurants or anything of interest to the kids. On every corner were casinos and flash hotels. In fact, the best thing about our visit to Macau was the dessert we enjoyed at the New Zealand Natural ice cream place. Craig had hokey-pokey, I had kiwi fruit sorbet, Jemilla had mint chocolate chip, Keegan had chocolate fudge brownie, and Tirzah had banana.
This reminds me that we went to Hillarys yesterday for a thickshake and I was really excited to see the icecream shop we were getting them from handing out free kids cone ice-creams to all the passers-by to attract interest (they sure got ours!). Leonie, Tahlia & I all had one (Chocolate Fudge or Honeycomb) to go with our thickshakes (Cappucino, Strawberry & Spearmint respectively) but the great thing was they kept giving me one every time I walked past - I ended up getting three - good thing they were so little!
ReplyDeleteGood work with the blog, we really enjoy reading about your adventures!
