Today at the market we bought a bag of little tangerines.
I had to take a photo of them because they reminded me of the last page in the delightful book Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne.
They also reminded me of snack time at Kent Academy, a boarding school I attended for four years in Nigeria. We used to grab handfuls of tangerines from large tubs and race each other to peel them before sinking our teeth into the sweet sun-warmed fruit .
We read this book over and over.
ReplyDeleteHowever, it irks me because the fruits in Africa were never the colours portrayed. Were the tangerines at KA orange?
I remember the tubs at KA!
The fruits remind me of the Solomons too.
ReplyDeleteThink I'll pull this book out and read it with the girls tonight.
Love this book!
ReplyDeleteI thoughtt this book was african. What does a tangerine taste like?
ReplyDeleteIt's just like a little mandarin, Brianna.
