A tale of two parties

Yesterday we attended the birthday party of Tirzah's friend Daniel from church. I was struck by the contrast between this party and another we attended a few weeks ago. You'll see what I mean from the photos below.

Daniel's party was held in the soccer field next to their village house. Most of the people who attended were Filipino friends of the family. We played some simple games like "Pop the balloon"...

"How many people can fit into a hula hoop?"

"Egg and spoon races"...

And "The lolly man"...

...who was tackled and stripped bare within seconds.

The food was homemade and delicious.

Here's Daniel with his cake.

Now when Keegan's classmate Sophie turned five, her party was a lavish event held in the beautifully decorated clubhouse of her estate.

Entertainment for the fifty or more children at the party consisted of body tattoos...

A treasure hunt...

A magic show...

And a clown who made balloon animals...

There was an abundance of rich party food.

And Sophie's cake was every girl's dream design.

I asked Jemilla and Keegan which party they preferred, Daniel's or Sophie's. They answered that they liked different things about each event.

I should have told them to enjoy Sophie's party extravaganza while they could because they are far more likely to have Daniel's minimalist party given for them during their childhood.
