Last night I took Jemilla and Keegan to see the musical "Bye Bye Birdie" performed by the ICS high school drama team. If you are unfamiliar with the plot, it centres around a rock singer who travels to a small town to make his farewell television performance and kiss his biggest fan before he is drafted into the army. The play was much longer than I anticipated, but it was an excellent performance. I especially loved the choreography and costumes. The stand-out girls in our opinions were Athena Wong playing Rose Alvarez, Sabrina Lieberman playing Mrs Peterson, and Natalie Lu playing Kim McAfee. My eye was drawn to Natalie any time she was on the stage. As Tyra Banks would say, she acts "from head to toe". The guy playing Albert Peterson was excellent as well, and Henry McAfee really stole the show and had me in stitches. (Does anyone know their real names?)
It brought back fond memories of my Senior Play at International Christian Academy, "Rally Round the Flag, Boys" which was set around the same time period. I played Grace Bannerman, a woman more interested in her civic duties than her poor beleaguered husband. Here are some photos from 1993, courtesy of Natalie.
Leonard Rose/Mr. Peterson, Timothy Leung/Mr. McAfee - will share your review and enjoyed those old photos of you on stage!
