Twenty five years

Last night we attended the Small World Christian Kindergarten 25th Anniversary Red and White Gala. (Yes, Amanda, I am actually wearing a red top here, borrowed from a friend just for the occasion!)

Newspaper columnist, author and teacher Nuri Vitachi did an excellent job as MC for the evening. He recounted a humorous story of one Christmas when Small World planned a nativity play and invited the children to dress up as animals in the stable. An overzealous Korean mother had to be gently told that perhaps the elaborate Donald Duck costume she had prepared was not the best choice for her child as from all accounts Donald was not present at the birth of Jesus.

Craig's boss and principal of Small World paid tribute to many of the families and staff that blessed the kindergarten over the last 25 years.

This was the table for staff and parents from Norwegian International School.

Last night also marked the launch of the new website for the newly named Generations Christian Education, the organisation that encompassing Small World Christian Kindergarten, the recently acquired Norwegian International School, and the forthcoming Island Christian Academy. The name derives from verses in Psalm 78. "We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord,  his power, and the wonders he has done...so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands."

Apparently, even a 25th anniversary celebration is not a good enough reason to not work. I caught Craig getting some documents signed by Gail in the midst of the festivities.

After singing "Happy Birthday" in both Chinese and English, Gail cut the birthday cake.

Grand Hyatt Hong Kong provided this enormous cake for the celebration.

I will conclude with a touching story that Craig's boss Gail shared during her speech about one young boy who was first told about Jesus and God during his time at Small World. "Miss Gail," he asked one day, "Are the crosses on churches like TV antennas for us to talk to God?" What a wonderful child-like perspective of how Christ's ultimate sacrifice created the means for us to have a relationship with God.

Praise God for his faithfulness shown to Small World over the last 25 years!
